1. Earth Day Celebration is Tomorrow! See you there?
Come visit us at our booth at the Richmond
Family Earth Day Celebration on Saturday,
April 25th, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thanks to
Adrienne Lowe, Nate Smith, Cathy Anthofer, Grace
Muma, and Anna Lisa Gross for volunteering!
The celebration is located this year at Indiana
University East, on Chester Blvd., between the new
Reid Hospital and Meijer. We’ll be focusing on
earth-friendly spring cleaning products, the
environmental benefits of buying in bulk and of
buying locally! Come help educate the community!
2. April 100-Mile-Radius Potluck is Sunday!
Spring is here! Just think how easy the 100 mile
radius potlucks are going to be soon!
In the meantime, for the hardcore, curious and
determined among you, our April potluck will be
on *Sunday, April 26 at 6pm.*
We’ll meet at the Cycling & Fitness Warehouse
CFW sits near the Cardinal Greenway, so it’s easy
to find by bike or on foot. It’s a bit harder to find by
car, but there are directions on their site, and here
is another map.
It’s near Richmond’s main post office, and we’ll put
up signs next Sunday. Thanks to CFW for hosting.
As always, 100 mile radius potlucks are a chance for
us to learn more about the bioregion we live in, and
try out a new style of cooking. Most of all, potlucks
are a time to be with new and old friends, and share
ideas and enthusiasm about sustainable living.
Challenge yourself to bring the most local food you
can, but come with whatever food (even no food)
you’re able to procure. Please bring your own
dishes, and even a lawnchair, if possible.
3. One week left for Meal Plan!
There’s just one week left on the meal plan! Here’s
the scoop on the menus (gluten free and vegan
options every day):
Monday - Mac N Cheese, Salad
Tuesday - Falafel and Salad
Wednesday - Spinach Lasagna and Salad
Thursday - Spicy Vegan Black Bean Burgers and Salad
Friday - Leftover Day!!!
4. A shout out for containers!
We’re going through a lot of containers these days!
If you’ve got extra plastic or glass containers at
home that need to be re-used, please wash
them and bring them into the co-op!
5. Tasty, tasty activism!
Some of you may know former Earlham student and
Miller Farm/Ag Program stalwart Dan Hobbs and his
wife, Earlham alum Allison Kinsey. Dan has been a
top-notch organic farmer and leader of various
sustainable ag. nonprofit orgs. for the last 20 years.
He’s trying to protect prime farmland from development
by buying the family farm adjacent to his farm to
keep it in active agricultural use. He’s funding the
land acquistion by selling shares of his exceptional
organic heirloom garlic. The farm grows several
stunning varieties–Music Pink (just for the name
alone you have to try that) Romanian Red etc.
They’re asking folks to buy a 3 year share or 1/2
share, which means you’ll be shipped a mix of all
the varieties they grow each year. A full share gets
you 10 pounds of garlic a year, or a 5 pounds with a
1/2 share. The pricing works out to about $10 a
pound with shipping included. The garlic keeps for
at least 9 months. Rarely do good acts and delicious
outcomes combine so nicely. Feel free to circulate this
to others who might be interested. They’ll stop
making this available when they reach their goal
and are halfway there at this point.
