Summer Plans for the Co-op
Chris Hardie on May 21st 2009
In my last update, I noted that the Co-op would be scaling back its operations at the end of the Spring semester at Earlham. The Board and staff have since met to talk more about what that scaling back will look like, and we’d like to pass along information about this new direction and some new opportunities:
The Co-op will continue to operate normally for the month of May, with a focus on reducing our inventory and clearing out perishable goods.
Beginning in June, the Co-op will only be open two days per week, and with a significantly different offering. We’ll be open on Tuesdays from 12 PM to 7 PM, and Saturdays from 10 AM to 2 PM.
During these hours, our focus will be helping customers place and receive bulk orders, and facilitate very limited grocery operations for items we know we can “move” off of our shelves quickly. We also hope to begin cultivating a “market” atmosphere that complements other markets happening during the summer, and allows people to experience the goods and services we offer (as well as those of other customers) in new ways.
We’ll also be staffed primarily by volunteers from June onward. We’re looking for Co-op supporters (and especially would-be bulk buying club members) to offer up a few hours this summer to help the Co-op maintain this minimal presence. If you’re not able to staff the store during those days and times, we can still find a place for you in helping with finances, cleaning, outreach and planning!
We’ll stay in this mode through the Summer, using the relative quiet to do further planning and research about the next steps for the life of the Co-op. As always, if you’d like to be a part of these conversations, envisioning what the Co-op’s best role in Richmond can be, we invite you to contact us and join in.
Thank you for your interest and support. If you have any questions, you can contact the Co-op managers at 983-1547, coop@clearcreekcoop.org or the board at board@clearcreekcoop.org.
