Dehydrating class and new products at the Co-op

Coop on Aug 20th 2010

Hello Friends,

Saturday, August 21st  we will be offering the next installment in our series of cooking and preserving classes.  Tomorrow’s class will be on Dehydrating and Rehydrating, and will be held at 2:00pm at the Richmond church of the Brethren. (1 SW 17th St.)  Dori Baxter, of Abundant Acres, will be our instructor.  Call the Co-op for more details.  The cost of the class is $5 for owner/members and $10 for those of you who are not owner/members yet.  (The cost is intended to cover the cost of supplies/ produce)

I am also happy to announce that we have begun our ‘grab and go’ meal program.  We now carry wraps and side dishes by Jen Ferrell of ‘Who Cooks for You’.

Jen is a famous, local caterer who focuses on local, delicious, healthy food that is consciously prepared and sustainably contained.  Today she delivered Grilled Portabella, Santa Fe, and Indian wrap varieties accompanied by a lemon bowtie pasta salad and chipotle potato salad.  We are beginning the program with an openness to suggestions for favorites; so come on in and,  “vote with your fork”!

There are many new products to check out as well.  We have a great new vegan ‘cheese’ line by Daiya.  The mozzerella style shreds delighted the local vegan population so much that we had to get the cheddar style in as well.  We added bulk ‘Glad corn’, bulk peanut Sundrops, packaged agave syrup, milk chocolate candy bars, and Grass Point milk- per your requests.

We have a new line of products by ‘Field Day’.  This line includes an affordable array of canned, organic beans: black, garbanzo, vegetarian refried black and baked varieties, as well as organic pasta sauce, and salsa.  We also have their 100% recycled  paper towels and TP.  The national  Kombucha brands continue to be inconsistant for now, but we have the local Kombucha by Hidden Pond Farm, and one variety of ‘Vibranz’ to chose from.  ‘Peruvian Dark’ is our new variety of fair trade, organic coffee in the bulk bins;  it is wonderful!  We have new Bombay potato entree, and a gluten free granola to try.  Kettle’s Spicy Thai chips are favorite in the neighborhood, as are the Lundberg wasabi rice chips.

Our farmers are all bringing in really amazing produce too.  If you miss them at the farmer’s market tomorrow, we are here 10am-7pm Monday - Saturday.

See you at the Co-op,
Kiersten
