Co-op Update: June 16-30 1. Co-op Closed Saturday 2. Co-op at the Farmer's Market 3. Welcome to Kristina Perry, the Co-op's New Kitchen Manager 4. Quarterly Inventory and Work Day (We Need Your Help!!): July 1 5. Produce from Salem Road Farms 6. Handmade Items at the Co-op 7. Next Order 8. Recipe of the Week: Fruit Pizza (a.k.a Prego-Pizza) 1. Co-op Closed Saturday The Co-op will be closed this Saturday, June 17th. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. We will be open on Tuesday at our regular summer hours (noon-7pm). However, you can come see us Saturday at the market! 2. Co-op at the Farmer's Market The Richmond Farmer's Market starts this Saturday, June 17th! Be sure to stop by the city lot next to Morrison-Reeves library (N. 6th and N. A) for a great selection of local produce, between 7-11am (get there earlier in the morning for the best selection--some of the stalls close around 10 or so...) The Co-op doesn't carry much produce during the summer due to decrease in foot traffic through the store, so we encourage you to plan on obtaining your fresh local produce at the market! You can also find the Co-op holding some space at the Market! We will be selling a variety of our bulk foods and snacks and doing outreach in the local community. Stop by and see us! 3. Welcome to Kristina Perry, the Co-op's New Kitchen Manager The Co-op is happy to announce that we have filled the kitchen manager position! Kristina Perry will be joining us all the way from California. Kristina has extensive experience working with food and other worker cooperatives, as well as actively working with vegetarian/vegan/ whole foods cooking for large groups (she worked in a Friend's school cafeteria, among other creative kitchen environments!). She is joining the Richmond community for a year, and will arrive in August. We look forward to having Kristina join us and hope you will stop by to greet her when she arrives in August! 4. Quarterly Inventory and Work Day (We Need Your Help!!): July 1 As we do every quarter, we will be counting inventory at the Co-op and doing some fix-er-upper chores on Saturday July 1st. If you have joined us for a work day, you know it's a lot more fun than it sounds! If you haven't joined us, why not come in for an hour or so? We can use all the hands we can this time, so get out of the heat and have fun at the Co-op! 5. Produce from Salem Road Farms We have some lovely Swiss Chard and Garlic Scapes brought by Salem Road Farms! Come by and pick some up. Don't forget Salem Road's free range organic eggs either! 6. Handmade Items at the Co-op Long-time member Janet Wagner has graciously knitted many colorful potholders/scrub rags to sell at the Co-op. They are only $5 each and all proceeds of these purchases will go to the Co-op. Come by and see these great crafts! 7. Next Order We placed our most recent order to UNFI this Thursday and it should arrive Tuesday, June 20th. The next order will be placed Thursday June 29th and will arrive July 5th (We will be closed July 4th!) 8. Recipe of the Week: Fruit Pizza (also known as Prego-Pizza) Manifested in Carrie's mind at the urgings of her cravings one large tortilla [a whole wheat pita would be a good option, too!] 1/2 cup yogurt 3 large strawberries 1 banana 1/4 cup melon 1/4 cup pineapple 1 kiwi 1 orange (depending on the size of your tortilla/pita you may need less or more fruit. These are just suggestions, use whatever fruit you want, love, or is in season! MMM...think strawberries and mullberries) Spread yogurt on tortilla (enough to make fruit stick). Cut fruit into bite sized pieces and arrange on top. Cut pizza into 8 pieces or just shove it all in your mouth.
