Then consider joining the staff at Clear Creek Food Co-op! We are looking for exciting people to fill a couple of positions. *Cashier: Looking for people-friendly coop-er and a quick learner to staff the cash register on Wednesdays from 11am-4:30pm. Also possibilities of some evening hours. *Sandwich Maker: If you love to make good food and need some work that has flexible hours, consider making sandwiches for the Co-op! *General Manager: Carrie and Torin will be finishing their position as General (co-)Managers in December and the Co-op Board is now searching for the next General Manager. For more information on this position, visit http://www.clearcreekcoop.org/about/manager-opening.html If you are interested, pick up an application at the Co-op! 2.Meet the Cook Night: August 24th, 6-8pm Join us at the Co-op on Thursday August 24th to meet Kristina Perry, the Co-op's new kitchen manager and to taste some of her delectable cooking! Kristina joins the Co-op staff from the San Francisco area and has a wide range of experience cooking vegetarian and vegan meals for large groups. Aside from sampling some of Kristina's cooking, Kristina would love to talk with you about YOUR vision for the Co-op meal plan this year! What might be in store for your tastebuds? Think...sprouted hummus, roasted red pepper, pita bread, tabbouleh, and more! AND it's all free, so come while there is food (limited amounts)! So come by the Co-op, Thursday, August 24 between 6-8pm. You'll be glad you did! 3.Sign Up Now For the Meal Plan! Once you have tried Kristina's food, we're sure you'll want to sign up for the meal plan, but you don't have to wait! We are now taking applications for the fall meal plan. Sign up for the best lunch experience in town! And as always, we encourage you to consider signing up for the working meal plan. For just an hour of work a week in the Co-op kitchen (heck, an hour of FUN at the Co-op) you can receive a signficant discount on your meal plan. Come in today to make sure you have a spot! 4.Need for the Co-op Kitchen: Forks and Towels If you have extra forks or kitchen towels lying around your house, or if you have raided the local garage sales for such wares, the Co-op could sure use some! If you have forks or towels to donate, just drop them by the Co-op. THANK YOU! 5. Co-op at the Farmer's Market Be sure to stop by the city lot next to Morrison-Reeves library (N. 6th and N. A) for a great selection of local produce, between 7-11am (get there earlier in the morning for the best selection--some of the stalls close around 10 orso...) The Co-op doesn't carry much produce during the summer due to decrease in foot traffic through the store, so we encourage you to plan on obtaining your fresh local produce at the market! You can also find the Co-op holding some space at the Market! We will be selling a variety of our bulk foods and snacks and doing outreach in the local community. Stop by and see us! 6. Handmade Items at the Co-op Long-time member Janet Wagner has graciously knitted many colorful potholders/scrub rags to sell at the Co-op. They are only $5 each and all proceeds of these purchases will go to the Co-op. Come by and see these great crafts! 7. Next Order We placed our most recent order to UNFI this Thursday and it should arrive Tuesday August 1st. The next order will be placed Thursday August 10th and will arrive Tuesday August 15th. If you want to order COFFEE FROM CAFE FAIR, contact the Co-op no later than Monday at 7pm (e-mail is best). We will put an order in on Tuesday August 1st. 6.Recipe of the Week: Taste of Tuscany Spread 1 can artichoke hearts (contains 5 hearts) 1 head of garlic small jar of sun dried tomatoes (in oil - or else 4-5 rehydrated slices) little olive oil salt and pepper basil Cut off top of garlic head and drizzle on a little olive oil. Wrap it in tinfoil or put it in a covered baking dish. Bake at 300-350 till soft, about 20 minutes. (toaster oven works fine) Drain artichoke hearts and put them in a food processor. Add 4 or 5 slices of sun dried tomato. Squeeze baked garlic cloves out of their papery wrappers (careful -they're hot!) into the food processor. Blend till smooth. Add salt pepper and basil to taste. *Great on crackers, a bagel, crusty bread...or straight off your finger.
