1. Saturday December 9th: THIRD ANNUAL HOLIDAY ALTERNATIVE BAZAAR 9am-5pm
For three years now, the Co-op has held an bazaar that showcases local
artistry and crafts, as well as international gifts, holiday cards,
calendars, and more. Saturday December 9th will be a lively festive day
at the Co-op. As usual we will have items from Richmond/Earlhamites, fair
trade items from SERRV International, gifts from Syracuse Cultural Workers
AND new this year will be a selection of PUTUMAYO world music CDs and
teeshirts from Zendik Arts, a West Virginia artist collective!
Come do your holiday shopping in a different way, supporting the local and
international communities, and YOUR CO-OP!!
WOULD YOU LIKE TO SELL ITEMS AT THE BAZAAR? We need your creative
"masterpieces"! Bring in knitting, jewlery, photography, pottery...tell
us what you would like to make off of it, and we simply add 25% to go
towards the Co-op and you get your asking price in the end. A great way
to earn a little extra holiday cash AND support the Co-op. Contact Carrie
at the Co-op if you would like to sell your items (983-1547)!

Tuesday-Macaroni and Cheese, Greens
Wednesday-Daal, Rice and Chapatis, Apricot Chutney
Thursday-Black Bean Sweet Potato Pie, Salad
Friday-Mystery Pre-Christmas Feast!
3. Recipe of the Week: Beet and Tahini Salad (from Classic Vegetarian
Cooking from the Middle East and North Africa by Habeeb Salloum)
"The Greater Syria area of the Middle East, at the crossroads of world
civilizaions, has developed a somewhat unique type of cuisine, typified by
this salad. It is a specialty of Damascus, which has been an important
urban center since the beginning of civilization"
2 medium beets, cooked, peeled, and finely chopped
4 T tahini
1/3 C yoghurt
1/2 t. nutmeg
salt and pepper to taste
3 hard boiled eggs, quartered
Place beets in a bowl and set aside.
Thoroughly combine tahini, yoghurt, nutmeg, salt and pepper; then pour
over beets and mix. Spread on a platter; arrange eggs on top, and serve!

The Second Annual Alternative Gift Fair is THIS SATURDAY, DEC. 2ND! See
the list of all participating organizations below. Please join us!
Strengthen Your Community as You Shop! Your holiday shopping experience
can build a better community! Find the perfect gift for anyone on your
list at the 2nd Annual Alternative Gift Fair. Cope Environmental Center
has partnered with Girls Inc. of Wayne County and the Richmond Friends
School to provide a relaxing, rejuvenating, and joyful shopping
experience. Instead of browsing shelves, shoppers will browse through
tables of charities. Each table will be staffed with a knowledgeable
volunteer or staff member waiting to answer questions about missions,
programs, or participants. Purchase outdoor experiences for area
classrooms, art supplies for after-school programs or food for needy
animals. It's a great way to tailor your gift to your loved one's
favorite cause!
The Fair will include:
. 15 organizations- perfect for everyone on your list
PARTICIPATING ORGANIZATIONS INCLUDE: STARR GENNETT, IWIN, WOMENS' FUND,
ADULT DAY CARE, RICHMOND SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA, WHITNEY CENTER, HABITAT FOR
HUMANITY, DOG PARK, AREA 9, CONFLICT RESOLUTION CENTER, GIRL SCOUTS,
SUNRISE, GIRLS INC., COPE ENVIRONMENTAL CENTER, AND RICHMOND FRIENDS
SCHOOL.

Gifts prepared in boxes and bows while you wait
. Free child care for shoppers
. Free chair massages to relax and rejuvenate
. Gift-giving activities for your children
. Refreshments for shoppers!
Gifts come complete with certificate of donation, information about the
selected organization, reusable box, and natural ribbon. Best of all,
you'll be doing more than finishing your list...you'll be contributing to
the health and success of our community.
